Recreational Pilot Licence
Learning to fly through General Aviation is the most common way to begin flight training. It is also the most direct way to achieve a Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) or Private Pilot Licence (PPL) which is the main goal for a lot of students. If you goal is to achieve a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) and earn money as a pilot, then this is also the best place to start.
Basically an RPL entitles the holder to fly in command and with passengers up to 25 nm from the point of departure. The kind of aircraft that you would be flying at this point would be similar to the training aircraft. Based on the training that you would receive at Peace Aviation, you would be entitled to fly in and out of controlled airspace such as Rockhampton.
There is no minimum age limit for someone to conduct flight training, however a student is legally required to be at least 15 years old before they can achieve their first solo flight. A student is legally required to be at least 16 years old before they can obtain an RPL. There is a minimum of 25 hours of flight time required to achieve an RPL.
If you have never flown in an aircraft before, it is highly recommended to begin with a Trial Introductory Flight. Peace Aviation currently offers Trial Introductory Flights at $150 inc GST. Before a Trial Flight your instructor will give a small briefing covering the controls of the aircraft and walk you through the daily pre-flight inspection of the aircraft. Following that you will go for a short fly over Rockhampton city where you can not only have the hands on experience of flying a small aircraft, but you instructor will also cover some of the initial concepts taught in training such as balance and trim.
Not only is a Trial Introductory Flight a great way to experience flight in a small aircraft, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet the instructors, see the facilities and aircraft, and ask any questions you might have.
Once you have achieved your Recreational Pilots Licence, the next step is to begin Navigation training and work towards the complete Private Pilot Licence.
